Introduction ❖ Hypothesis: first generation immigrant students are committed to school than their non-immigrant (American citizens who were born here and have lived their whole life in America) schoolmates. ❖ According to the International Business Times, in the United States there are 42.1 immigrants ❖ In 2013 the total international(first-Generation) enrolled at colleges and universities in the U.S. was nearly 550,000 people

3. introduction ❖ Asian students comprise over 56% of all international enrollment, Europe coming in at second with 14%, Latin America 12%, Middle East 7%, and Africa 6% ❖ U.S colleges and universities enroll more international (first generation immigrants) than any other country in the world (U.S. News and World Report)

4. method ❖ The method that we decided would be best for our research Paper was to conduct a Survey. ❖ With a Survey we would be able to gather more data. ❖ We focus on five section of the survey which was the Academic Challenge students face, how active they are in their classes, if they did any community services and how often they relax or socialize. ❖ 25 students took our survey

Results ❖ students who consider themselves first generation immigrants were indeed more committed to their education than students who were born here. ❖ when asked the Number of hours per week they spent on preparing for class (studying, reading, writing, rehearsing, and other activities related to your academic program)? first generation had more hours spent on preparing for class ❖ when asked the frequency of having asked questions in class or contributed to class discussions during the current school year. first generation were more active in class

6. Results ❖ when asked the frequency of having participated in a community-based project as part of a regular course during the current school year? There was more first generation who did so then their non-immigrant schoolmates ❖ finally when asked Number of hours per week spending on relaxing and socializing (watching TV, partying, exercising, playing computer and other games, etc.) Non- immigrant students spent more hours on relaxing and socializing than first generation immigrants

7. conclusion ❖ After we conducted our survey and analyzing our data we were able to prove our hypothesis correct.
