2 Mission Statement The mission of the Pender Public School District is to provide quality educational opportunities in a safe, positive learning environment that motivates and challenges all students to become productive and responsible citizens.

4 Rule 10 and 11 NDE annually requires all public schools in Nebraska to submit a Rule 10 and Rule 11 reports Both are due November 1 I will complete both reports and submit by the deadline The details will be shared with Board members during the November meeting

5 Child Development Center Part of the Pender Community Center Susan Strahm – Child Development Center Committee Chair Approached the school about expanding our PK program Daily and potentially all day 3 year old program Enhances grant applications Provides PPS with a better early childhood education program Expansion costs would be offset by NDE Expansion Grant

6 School Safety Week & Red Ribbon Week School Safety Week – October 17 – 21 Admin team is planning various activities throughout the week for students of all ages Lunch w/ Law Enforcement – October 17 Red Ribbon Week – October 23 – 31 Admin team and Mr. Nixon are planning various activities throughout the week for students of all ages

7 Standard Response Protocol Training October 27 in Wakefield Team members PPS Staff – Jason Dolliver, Thad Nixon, Tony Crippen, Barb Preston Pender Community Hospital – Karri Cadwallader, Nicole Rutar Pender Volunteer Fire & Rescue – TBD Thurston County Sheriff’s Department – TBD

8 Levy Correction The tax request for all funds was correct The correlating levy was not correct for the K-8 Bond Fund This required a small adjustment Initial K-8 Bond Fund Levy – $0.044747 Modified K-8 Bond Fund Levy – $0.045341 Clerical error Needs to be reported to BOE Communication with County Clerks

9 Planning for the Future Barb replacement AptaFund – January 1 Target hire date – somewhere between July 1 and September 1, 2017 Allows Barb to effectively train a replacement and fill in where needed as training progresses Roofs and other building needs Would like to seek proposals for summer 2017 projects shortly after November meeting Ask for proposals to be due prior to the holiday break

10 Pathways to Tomorrow (P2T) Part of the budget was to attend the National Career Academy Coalition Conference in Tampa, Florida from November 7 – 9 Mr. Nixon is planning to attend for PPS (no cost to PPS) Also attending are: Joe Peitzmeier – P2T (P2T funded) Mary Janata – P2T (P2T funded) Someone from West Point Public Schools (P2T funded) Several Wisner-Pilger staff members (grant funded)
