1 CALVARYS’ LOVE **John 11:35,36 "Jesus wept…Behold how he loved him!"
**John 3:16 - "For God so loved…”

2 “Love Found a Way” – “Jesus Loves Me.” (Red - #321 & #648)
1. I speak on "love" because of; (1) Its importance. (2) My deficiency. 2. Calvary's love is the theme of God's love letter, the Bible. 3. The source: "God is Love" - Not an attribute but His nature. (1) "Agape" = unconditional, unchanging, eternal, sacrificial. Jer 31:3 (2) "Eras" = secular Greek; Sensual, fickle, flourishes, then falters.

3 4. Definition: don’t look in the dictionary, but in the Bible, at Calvary.
5. Calvary is God's ultimate proof of (Agape) unconditional, sacrificial love. Lu 23:33 6. Calvary; the greatest execution of judgment – the greatest exhibition of love.

4 Examine, "Calvary's Love" (God ward & Man ward)
I. A PERSONAL LOVE: 1. Personally extended. God loves ME. (1) "Jesus loves me..." – profound truth, with eternal consequences. (2) "This I know..." - blessed assurance. (3) "For the Bible tells me so..." - Divine confirmation.

5 I. A PERSONAL LOVE: (continued)
2. Personally appropriated "whosoever will..." Re 22:17 (1) To obtain salvation, to retain sanctification and to maintain fellowship. (2) Manna and water was available to all, but each had to partake. Nu 11:9; 20:11

6 II. A UNIVERSAL LOVE: 1. Not universal salvation, but universal love available to all. 2. Impartial: "All are precious..." – sinners / enemies / unlovable / me. 3. No sinner in hell is unloved or because God didn't elect him.

7 III. A DEMANDING LOVE: 1. It demands reciprocal love. "...The LORD is...a jealous God..." Ex 20:5 (1) Idolatry robs God of His glory. "My glory, will I not give to another." Isa 42:8 2. It demands obedience: "If a man love me, he will keep my words." John 14:23

8 III. A DEMANDING LOVE: (continued)
3. It demands that we communicate His love to others. (1) "The love of Christ constrains us..." (Compels / controls) 2Co 5:14 (2) The Spirit pours love into our hearts to overflow to others. Ro 5:5 (3) Jesus / Peter: "do you love me?…feed my lambs..." John 21:15-17

9 IV. A POWERFUL LOVE: 1. The Gospel is the "power" of God unto salvation. Ro 1:16 (1) Power to expose sin, convict, and lead to repentance and faith. Lu 5:32 (2) Power to save guilty, lost, and hell deserving sinners. Lu 19:10 (3) Power to sanctify and transform sinners into saints.

10 (4) Power to secure believers. (Assurance & eternal security)
(a) Nothing can "separate us from the love of God." Ro 8:39 (5) Power to complete our salvation; "I will come again and receive you." (a) Past, present and future: “I was saved - I am being saved - I will be saved.” (b) God began the good work and will complete it in His time. Php 1:6 2. God's love is strong but tender. "Many waters cannot quench love." So 8:7

11 V. A SATISFYING LOVE: 1. ETERNAL: "...He loved them unto the end..." John 13:1 (1) Faith, hope and love; the greatest of these is love. 1Co 13:13 2. UNCHANGING: "...same yesterday, and to day, and for ever...." Heb 13:8

12 V. A SATISFYING LOVE: (continued)
3. PERSONAL: "who loved me, and gave himself for me." Ga 2:20 4. IMMEASURABLE: (Infinite) as the Father loves the Son. John 15:9

13 VI. A TRIUMPHANT LOVE: 1. "...We are more then conquerors through Him that loved us." Ro 8:37 2. Calvary’s love conquered all the enemies. (World, Flesh, Devil) ---- 1. There is no greater theme, then, "Calvary's love." 2. The object of Calvary's love is, "The Man of Calvary".

14 VI. A TRIUMPHANT LOVE: (continued)
3. A threefold lesson from Calvary's love; (1) My love for the "Man of Calvary" measures my commitment. (2) It causes our love to "abound more and more". Php 1:9 (3) It Inspires worship and motivates service.
