GCSE attainment is positively influenced by the level of parental engagement : The more parents get involved, the higher the level of attainment. Parents have the greatest influence on the achievement of pupils through supporting their learning in the home rather than supporting activities in the school. It is your support of learning within the home environment that makes the maximum difference to achievement. DFE

Coursework and controlled assessment have gone. Tiers of entry have gone. Speaking and listening endorsed separately. Learners will study a 19 th century novel for literature & respond to texts from 19 th, 20 th and 21 st centuries in the language examination. Learners will sit ‘closed book’ examinations in literature.

Continue to encourage regular reading (both fiction and non-fiction) Get them to summarise the main points/events in a news story. Debate with them about contentious issues in the news. Read leaflets, information sheets and adverts and discuss who they are aimed and what they are trying to achieve. Buy a thesaurus and encourage them to use it to improve their vocabulary. Watch film versions of their set texts together and get them to talk to you about what they know, particularly differences in versions.

This is the new GCSE for Mathematics. It grades at 9 to 1 with 9 being the highest result and 1 the lowest. Higher Tier will grade from 9 to 4. Foundation Tier will grade from 5 to 1.

Linear examination – no coursework or controlled assessment – just 3 examination papers! Paper 1 is 1 hour 30 minutes without a calculator Papers 2 and 3 are 1 hour and 30 minutes with a calculator

Groups 10A1 and 10B1 These two groups are targeting 6, 7, 8, 9

Groups 10A2 and 10B2 These two groups are targeting 4, 5, 6, 7

Groups 10A3 and 10B3 These two groups are targeting 3, 4, 5 with some grade 6 work where appropriate.

There are regular tests – these are at the end of every half term. Progress is monitored carefully Maths Club is on a Wednesday 3:30 to 5:00pm. We will be in touch if we have concerns

If students do not achieve the pass mark for the test, they will be expected to re-do it over the following holiday. Support is available from their mathematics teacher at lunchtimes. Each student has been given a login to the CGP textbook.
