25 Opportunities for Advanced Coursework  Advanced Placement (AP) Courses ◦Opportunity to earn college credit by taking AP test in May ◦Available at HHS in AP American History, AP American Government, and AP English IV  Concurrent Credit Courses ◦Partnership with FHSU, BCC, and NCK Tech ◦Students may earn dual credit for some courses ◦Must pay tuition to earn dual credit ◦FHSU has qualifying criteria (info on next slide)  More detailed information: hayshighindians.com>Resources>Course Guide 2016-2017 (PGS. 9-10)

26 Concurrent Credit Requirements  FHSU Concurrent Credit Eligibility Requirements ◦To enroll in FHSU concurrent credit classes, EXCEPT College Algebra, a student must meet ONE of the following: ◦ACT Composite Score of 21 ◦Combined verbal & mathematical score on the SAT Reasoning Test of at least 1000 ◦A Selection Index score on the PSAT/NMSQT of at least 150 ◦A STAR Reading score in the 50 th percentile or better ◦A composite score of at least 21 on the PLAN test ◦To enroll in College Algebra at FHSU, a student must: 1)Have scores on the ACT math subtest and the ACT science subtest that combine for a total of 40 or higher, and have at least an 18 on both subtests; 2)OR have a score of at least 15 on the FHSU math placement exam.  Barton Community College and NCK Tech do not require a test to enroll in their Concurrent Credit courses. However, students should NOT enroll in Concurrent Credit unless they have a minimum core grade point average of at least “C”.  Different scores required depending on which college is sponsoring class  Enrollment for Fall and Spring Concurrent Courses ◦August 24 th from 12-5:30 p.m. in the HHS library ◦January 12 th from 12-5:30 p.m. in the HHS library

29 NCAA If there is a possibility of you playing Division I or II sports, you must… Register with NCAA ◦Required by Division I and II Schools ◦NCAA ACT Code is 9999 Register online—it is simple ◦Preferably register by spring of junior year. ◦Registration fee is approximately $75 ◦Go to www.eligibilitycenter.orgwww.eligibilitycenter.org See your counselor.

30 Military Academies A Military Academy education is all expense paid and is valued well over $300,000. Military Academies include: ◦U.S. Air Force Academy (Colorado Springs, CO) ◦U.S. Naval Academy (Annapolis, MD) ◦U.S. Military Academy (West Point, NY) ◦U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (Kings Point, NY) Junior year is the time to consider them and begin preliminary application process in spring. Mid-September of senior year is often the deadline for Congressional Nomination Applications.

32 College Admissions Process Class of 2018 Qualified Admissions Requirements ◦Earn 2.0 or above in QA Curriculum, and ◦ACT Score of 21, or SAT Score of 980, or ◦Rank in top third of class ◦And, earn a 2.0 or above in any Concurrent Credit Courses, if applicable Qualified Admissions Requirements for KU ◦Earn 2.0 or above in QA Curriculum, and ◦3.25+ overall GPA and 21+ ACT (980+SAT), or ◦3.0+ overall GPA and 24+ ACT (1090+ SAT) ◦And, earn a 2.0 or above in any Concurrent Credit Courses, if applicable.
