Crustal Features and plate boundaries
2
Trench Definition: A deep depression of the sea floor caused by subduction of one plate under another. Boundary Type: Convergent
3
Rift zones Definition: An area in the middle of a continental plate where the plate is beginning to separate. A large valley will form in the area as the crust thins. Boundary Type: Divergent
4
Oceanic ridges Definition: Underwater mountain ranges where the crust is spreading apart creating new ocean floor. Boundary Type: Divergent
5
Underwater mountain ranges
Definition: Long, continuous volcanic chain of various mountains. Boundary Type: Divergent
6
Mountain ranges on land
Definition: A series of mountains that are close together and rise 300 m (1000 ft.) above its surrounding area. Boundary Type: Convergent
7
Ring of fire Definition: An area that is surrounding the Pacific Ocean that is comprised of multiple chains of volcanic islands. The area also has an abundance of volcanic activity. Boundary Type: Convergent
