What is the National Epistaxis Audit? A UK-wide two-cycle prospective audit of in-hospital epistaxis management and outcomes The first annual project to be delivered by INTEGRATE, the new National ENT Trainee Research Network Designed to assess UK-wide practice before and after implementation of an evidence-based management guideline Over 100 sites have already signed up

What is the gold standard? A new management guideline: 1.Trainees across England, Wales and Scotland have been working to generate 15 new systematic reviews relating to epistaxis management 2.The reviews were presented to a UK expert panel in May 2016 3.The evidence from the reviews was combined with expert consensus to generate recommendation statements for all areas of epistaxis management 4.These statements will be used as reference points for the audit, and for a new evidence-based management guideline 5.The guideline will be BRS And ENT-UK endorsed, and will be disseminated for UK-wide use

How will it work? A single registrar or core trainee ‘local lead’ at each site will prospectively collect data over 30 days All ENT-treated epistaxis presentations will be included Each case will have 30 day follow up Patient and treatment details, outcomes and adverse events will be recorded There will be two 30 day collection periods, the second after the dissemination of the guidelines

May 2016Consensus I meeting Nov 2016Audit assessment period I Feb 2017Consensus II meeting May 2017 Dissemination of management guideline & findings Summer 2017Audit assessment period II Autumn 2017Dissemination of 2 nd cycle audit findings When will it run? A successful two week pilot audit has been run at six centres

A single local lead is needed at each hospital The role will involve prospectively collecting data on patients attending for ENT management of epistaxis Those seen only by ED staff or in clinic will be excluded How can I get involved?

What do I get from involvement? All local site leads will be listed as the main authors in two papers, citable in MEDLINE etc. The two audit cycles will be published separately, under the joint authorship of INTEGRATE and BRS. The SAC has agreed that the National Epistaxis Audit fulfils the annual requirement for an audit at ARCP for each Local lead

What support will there be? INTEGRATE will coordinate data collection via its secure website BRS and ENT-UK will engage the consultant body Documents will be provided online: A step-by-step guide to being a local lead A guide for consultants and junior collaborators Supporting documents for local audit registration Each hospital has been allocated a regional SpR champion and a steering committee contact, reachable via the website

To register as a local lead please visit https://www.entintegrate.org/epistaxis Register as the local audit lead at the site you will be in during November 2016 By registering you will be added to the audit email list and more details will follow soon! How can I register?
