Summer Forum Welcome.

General Info Field days are Monday afternoons, but due to SATS less frequent this ½ term. Water bottles – entering summer, children need water bottles to help rehydrate. Spelling test on Friday. PE on Friday.

Class Subjects The subjects we will focus on cover this term are: Reading and applying grammar skills to extended pieces of writing. Maths. Science – topic work based on Habitats.

Topic Looking at habitats, food chains, adaptation to different conditions. Practical application of knowledge at Berwick Holiday camp comparing and contrasting woodland creatures with coastal animals.

Reading Guided reading books replaced weekly, emphasis on being able to extract information to answer questions. Children have been practising past SATS paper.

Next Steps In Reading Inference What do you think? Why did that happen? These are advanced skills getting children to think about the most obvious and sensible answers relating to their books.

Writing & Spellings Strong emphasis on teaching children the correct use of grammar; such as using apostrophes for contractions and possession. Weekly spelling challenges are now on Friday, children record their weekly results on a block diagram after each test – linking in maths. Children like the way they can see their progress.

Maths “Big push” on calculations – addition & subtraction. Division & multiplication. Fractions.

Homework To reinforce the work children have been learning about in class. Examples of how we solve maths calculations have been provided to help parents. Spellings and reading (knowing the book).
