COLLEGE CREDIT DURING HIGH SCHOOL Listed on HS transcript and on a transcript from that institution (Dual/Concurrent Enrollment) –Central Lakes College, Brainerd- UofM Duluth Grades and credits most likely follow if/when you enroll full time at a college after graduation Some credits may not be accepted, each institution has discretion. May have to retake courses, especially if you don’t get a required grade. 4. GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS @ AHS Students enrolling in college courses while in high school MUST MEET all AHS requirements in order to receive a HS Diploma. It is required that students meet with Mrs. Sander to have college courses approved for HS requirements. English: 4 years Social Studies: 4 years (3.5 for grad year 2018) Math: 3.5 years Science: 3 years PE 9/10: 2 semesters Health 9: 1 semester Fine Arts: 1 year

COLLEGE IN THE SCHOOLS @ AHS Taught by an AHS teacher in collaboration with a professor at the college Some semester long classes stretched to full year –Chemistry, Physics, PreCalc, Algebra, Band and Choir, List of CIS courses at AHS: –Social: Cultural Geography, Psychology, Sociology, American Gov, Economics –Science: Chemistry, Physics, Human Biology –English: American Lit I and II, College Writing, Public Speaking –Math: PreCalc, College Algebra, Calculus I and II –Music: Choir and Band ***Parent Presentation with CLC admissions department present this year (early 2017) for Sophomores and their parents registering for a CIS course

6. POSTSECONDARY ENROLLMENT OPTION (PSEO) Enroll full-time with the college and physically attend classes on campus –Can take 1 or 2 classes online and remain in the high school building Can earn Associate in Arts (AA) degree if attend full time Junior and Senior year. See CLC handout for requirements. 60 credits required Tuition and books covered by PSEO, only cost to you is transportation Still must abide by MSHSL rules PSEO students MUST meet with Mrs. Sander to ensure they are on track to earn a HS Diploma Credit earned at the college level is accepted at the high school level on a 4:2 basis –A 4 credit college course converts to 2 high school credits. A full year HS course is 2 credits

8. REQUIREMENTS TO QUALIFY Cumulative GPA –Junior: 3.0Senior: 2.5 Accuplacer or ACT score

9. WHAT IS THE ACCUPLACER? Placement exam that tests knowledge in Reading, Math, and Writing Identifies strengths and needs, helps to enroll students in courses that match their skill level Online, Multiple Choice format, Untimed, not pass/fail Questions increase or decrease in difficulty depending on your answers Scores are good for two years Students can retake the Accuplacer if did not achieve required score Study materials are available! –Free sample questions: accuplacer.collegeboard.org –Free downloadable App! Accuplacer web-based study app

10. WHAT IS THE ACT? A nationally administered test that helps colleges evaluate candidates Paper-Pencil, timed, multiple choice (except for Writing portion), scores are reported to colleges of your choice for a component of the admission decision English, Math, Reading, Science, Writing Offered free of charge for all Juniors at AHS in April –Also administered 6 Saturdays throughout the year, October administration at AHS –Must register and pay on your own for Saturday test

ACT AND ACCUPLACER SCORE REQUIREMENTS ACT Composition I: Reading 21, English 18 Honors Comp: Reading 24 Intro to College Algebra: Math 20 Concepts of Math, Intro Stats: Math 21 College Algebra: Math 22 Pre-Calculus: Math 24 Accuplacer Must score a 56 in Reading to take ANY college course! Composition I: Reading 78-120 Intro to College Algebra: Elem Alg 76-120, College Math 35-49 College Algebra: EA 76-120 and CM 50-85 Concepts of Math, Intro Stats: CM 50-85 Pre-Calc: CM 63-85 Calculus: CM 86-120 Physics: CM 63

12. HOW TO PREPARE NOW IN 9 TH AND 10 TH GRADE Do well in classes! Once a GPA is established, it is unlikely to change drastically Take college and career readiness tests –PSAT 9 (Spring) –PreACT 10 th grade (required, November) Take the accelerated math courses (if recommended by math dept.)

13. HOW TO ENROLL CIS –Attend CIS informational presentation (early 2017) –Register for CIS courses offered at AHS –Apply to CLC (done in school) –Take Accuplacer (done in school) PSEO –Attend informational meeting in March –Parent meeting with Mrs. Sander –Apply online –Obtain enrollment sheet from Mrs. Sander (need one each semester prior to registering for classes) –Schedule a time to register at CLC –Provide Mrs. Sander with copy of class schedule
