3. When the sunlight strikes just so, the walls of Marble Canyon in northern Arizona can appear to have the polished, multicolor striations of true marble stone. But make no mistake, these rough walls are limestone, the same ruddy rock that lines the Grand Canyon, a little farther southwest from here, if you follow the Colorado River flowing through the basin.
