2  Open the course to add an online class  Click on Add a Page (left side)  Type in a name  Click on Create  Click on the Content Tab  Click on Add a Portlet

3 This is what you will see…  Custom Content  Add Goals & Objectives  Write Instructions  Insert Videos  Insert online content  Forums  Online discussions  Students can attach files  Handouts  Include handouts ▪ Word Documents ▪ PowerPoint ▪ PDF articles

4 After choosing Portlets and Custom Content, start adding content  Navigate back to the Main Page of the course  Click on the link to the page you just created  Add Objectives and Directions  Add Posts for the discussion (students need a post to reply to…posts are different from folders)  Insert Handouts if needed

5 If you need two custom content boxes or want to add more portlets…  Click on Edit Page  Click on the Content Tab  Add either a portlet or a custom content  Click on Save  Navigate back to the page

6 You have two options for inserting video  Copy the url (Internet address at top of webpage…http://www.theurl.com) and paste into custom content  Copy the embed code and paste into custom content

8 Steps:  Click on Create Content  Click on HTML under the Text & Images  Copy embed code (look for an embed code link in websites)  Paste embed code into My.Wartburg  Click Save Click here to view instructional video on how to embed a video *You want to embed YouTube videos so they do not start playing automatically

9 Steps:  Copy the URL of the website  In Custom Content, Click on Show external remote content link  Paste the URL into the box  Click on Save  Instructional video on adding web content to My.Wartburg Instructional video on adding web content to My.Wartburg

10  Start a New Topic: Click on Forum Home Click on Edit Forum Click on Add a Topic Type in the Topic Name Click on Save  Add a Post to your Topic: Click on Exit edit mode and return to forum Click on the Topic folder Click on Add a Post Enter the Subject line and text in the body of the post Click on Submit *Students need a post to reply to  Reply to a Thread: Click on Forum Home Either click on a Recent post or on a Folder to view posts Click on Reply Type text, change subject line if you want, add a file through the Browse button Click on Submit

11  Simplify: Click on Forum Home Click on Unread Posts and Replies to view all new posts Click on User Lists to view individual student posts  Subscribe to Forum: Click on Forum Home Click on Subscribe to Forum Check the box [E-mail me all new posts and replies in Discussion] Click on Save  Edit or Delete a Post: Click on the Post Toward the bottom of the text box there are options Click on either Edit -or- Delete
