The Weekly Bulletin is used as the primary communication tool for summer hiring. There is a gap between recommendations & contracts. Please use this time to talk to the staff you plan to hire.

HUMAN RESOURCES GUIDELINES Criteria for Eligibility for Summer Teaching: The summer program applicant will: 1. Be a BCPS employee in active status. Employees who resign, retire, or are on leave fro, BCPS, including administrative leave, are ineligible for summer employment. 2. Be on tenure. 3. Hold a valid professional certification or license in the field of the requested employment. A qualified teacher with a valid conditional certification in the field of the assignment may be employed if a qualified teacher with a professional certification in the field of the assignment is not available. 4. Receive the recommendation of his/her principal/supervisor. TABCO Master Agreement 16.7.1 Tenured teachers shall be selected for summer school positions unless insufficient numbers of qualified tenured teachers have applied for such positions. TABCO Master Agreement 12.10.5 A teacher on less than a twelve-month schedule, who is employed for additional periods of duty on a temporary basis or on extended year employment (EYE) is permitted to use sick leave during these periods. Such a teacher shall receive sick leave for the additional term of employment in proportion to the time worked, e.g., a teacher with three (3) years service employed six (6) weeks accrues three (3) days; three (3) weeks accrues one and one-half (1 1/2) days. Teachers assigned to summer school or workshops will be permitted to use sick leave for a maximum of 16% of scheduled workdays

APPLICANT GROUPS Teacher Staff Groups 1 or HQ1 – First applicant pool Holds a professional certification, Maintains a HQ endorsement, On tenure, and Receives a recommendation for employment from his/her principal/supervisor 2 or HQ 2 – Second applicant pool when the first pool is exhausted. (A written request must be made via email to Laura Lough, llough@bcps.org at the time the hiring selection is entered into FMP.)llough@bcps.org Holds a standard or advanced certification, Maintains a HQ endorsement, and Receives a recommendation for employment from his/her principal/supervisor. 3 – Third applicant pool when the first & second pools are exhausted. Support Staff Requisite Credential Summary Currently work in the positon being offered or work in a position that possess the minimum requirements. Received recommendation from principal/supervisor. BCPS requires a Highly Qualified endorsement in the subject area of the assignment.
