Cell Theory 1. All organisms are composed of one or more cells. 1. All organisms are composed of one or more cells. 2. Cells are the smallest unit of life. 2. Cells are the smallest unit of life. 3. Prokaryotic Cells Bacteria Simplest organisms VERY small No membrane-bound organelles No organized nucleus (Do have DNA)
5
Parts of the Eukaryotic Cell

Animal Cell

Plant Cell
8
Cytoplasm (Cytosol): The “juice” of the cell. Nucleus: Contains DNA in the form of chromosomes or chromatin. Nucleolus: Dark spot in the nucleus; where ribosomes are made. NUCLEOLUS Cell Membrane: Flexible outer membrane that controls what substances pass in and out of the cell. The basics… Yup. You should draw this.

Cell Wall Cell Membrane Chloroplast Vacuole Nucleus Nucleolus Cell Wall: Rigid covering that lies outside the cell membrane; supports and protects the cell. Vacuole: Fluid-filled storage chamber. Very large in plant cells; smaller in animal cells. Chloroplast (Plastid): Site of photosynthesis; turns light energy into sugar. Mmm-hmm… this, too Plant cells only…

Use what you’ve learned… Plant or animal cell? ? ?
11
Plant or animal cells?
12
? ? Name these cell parts… ?
13
Can you tell me….. What do plant and animal cells have in common? What are their differences?
