Prepositions A word that relates a noun or pronoun to another word in a sentence. After English, we will go to Chicken Express at lunch.

Preposition Phrases Act as Adjectives modifying nouns & pronouns The Starbucks down the street (which Starbucks) on Collins (which street) sells tasty Frappuccinos. Act as Adverbs modifying verbs I am going to Starbucks (where) in the morning (when).

Find the Phrases! The Viking volleyball team will play in the gym on Tuesdays and Fridays. Before the Lamar football game on Friday, Vikings may eat at the tailgate party.

Write your own! Choose five prepositions from the list that have not been used in the previous sentences, add a noun or pronoun to each one to make a phrase and put them in sentences that have action verbs. Underline the phrases and circle the action verbs.

Writing Sentences with Coordinating Conjunctions Write seven sentences using each of the FANBOYS coordinating conjunctions. Underline each conjunction.

Type 2: Subordinating Conjunctions These begin adverb clauses that alone are fragments. Example: After school is out, I will get a happy hour half-price slush from Sonic!

Write a Song With one to three partners, write an AAAWWUBBIS song using all of the subordinating conjunctions in the AAAWWUBBIS order.

Conjunctive Adverbs Most frequently used examples: however, nevertheless, thus, consequently, therefore, likewise, moreover, nonetheless When these words connect sentences, they MUST be preceded by a semicolon and followed by a comma.

Use these Write three complete sentences using any three from the list. Each sentence will have two complete ideas joined by a conjunctive adverb with a semicolon in front and a comma after it.

Run-on Sentences: 2 kinds RUN-ON: When you write a sentence, make sure that you put a period at the end do not keep writing and cause a run- on sentence. COMMA SPLICE: A comma cannot be put in between complete sentences with no conjunction that will also cause a run-on sentence called a comma splice.
