1-4: The commandments To enhance our relationship and communication with our God.
6
5-10: The Commandments To enhance our relationship and fellowship with people around us.
7
VIII. You shall not steal.
8
Modern Version of the Commandment: You shall not steal: money, posessions, hours from your employer, taxes, music, DVDs, materials, books, ideas, people, identity of others, etc. You shall not shoplifting; You shall not do online theft ; You shoud not cheat on tests, etc.
9
God gives us talents, resources and relationships that we are stewards over. We are responsible to care for them and develop them. Because of jealousy and greed, people are tempted to steal what other people have been given in order to make themselves feel more important.
10
God has charged us to take care of the resources entrusted in our care. Never are we to steal or to covet other people’s things or money.
11
Most people would say stealing is wrong and that they don’t steal. But how many people have hidden money so they don’t have to pay taxes? How many have downloaded an mp3 or a movie without paying the artist? Is stealing still wrong if everyone else is doing it?
17
If one is content with what God has given, how can one become a thief? Before one is a thief, he/ she has to covet something that does not belong to him/her. Keep your heart free from wanting other people's possessions by resting in God's provision, and you won't be tempted to steal.
18
X. You shall never want what belongs to someone else. 17 “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.” Modern Version: BE CONTENT WITH WHAT YOU HAVE.
19
Many suffer from a spiritual illness known as “GREED.” They compete to keep up with other people in a game with no end because there will always be someone out there with more than them. But life has more meaning than the accumulation of material possessions.
