4. How do we find the number of groups? Mrs. Johnson’s class is playing a game. There are 2 teams. There are 3 kids on each team. How many kids are playing the game? Which is our “group”?  Teams because there are kids on or in each team.  So our number of groups is 2  There are 2 teams

5. How do we find how many in each group? Mrs. Johnson’s class is playing a game. There are 2 teams. There are 3 kids on each team. How many kids are in Mrs. Johnson’s class? Which is the “thing” in each group?  Kids because there are kids in or on the teams.  So our number of things in each group is 3  3 kids in each team

6. How do we solve? Number of Groups: 2 teams Number of Things in Each Group: 3 kids 1. Draw it out Team 1Team 2

7. How do we solve? Number of Groups: 2 teams Number of Things in Each Group: 3 kids 2. Set up the multiplication:  2 Groups  3 Things in Each Group 2 teams x 3 kids on each team 2 x 3 is the same as 3 + 3  There are 6 kids playing the game 3. Now count the kids in your drawing just to make sure.
