3 Outcomes 1. Identify the different parts of bullfighting and what constitutes each part. 2. Summarize the important parts of each category of bullfighting on a group poster. 3. Analyze why bullfighting, although it can seem very cruel, is so important to the culture and people of Spain.

11 The Bull El Toro Symbol of power and life Has become this symbol because of its fertility and strength. Symbol of the relationship between the man and the bull through nature.

14 What happens?- the fight Bull is let into the ring. Top bullfighter watches his chief assistant wave a cape in front of the bull to make it charge. He watches to determine the bull's qualities and mood, before taking over himself.

17 What happens? Another trumpet sounds Matador removes his black winged hat and dedicates the death of the bull to the president or the crowd before beginning his faena.

19 What happens? The faena- the most "beautiful" and skillful section of the fight The matador must prove his courage and artistry. Carries a muleta= a piece of thick crimson cloth draped over a short stick Uses Espada = killing sword One wrong move and the Matador could become impaled on the horns of the bull.

20 What happens? Matador's job to make this dance dramatic and enjoyable for the audience. The faena continues until the Matador has demonstrated his superiority over the bull. Once this is achieved the bull is ready to be killed.

21 Activity In small groups discuss the different parts of a bullfight and what you learned IN SPANISH EACH PERSON needs to have a summary IN SPANISH of what was learned and the separate parts I will collect
