7 www.glosfirst.co.uk Project Aims and Objectives Mission: To help reduce the amount of commercial waste that goes to landfill and increase the level of commercial waste recycling amongst Gloucestershire's Businesses Adopting more sustainable approaches to commercial waste will protect the environment, and will also benefit Gloucestershire's Businesses.

8 www.glosfirst.co.uk Project Aims and Objectives Aims: 1) To make it easier for businesses in Gloucestershire to access information and support to deal with their waste in a more sustainable way 2) To stimulate and facilitate the development of new more effective activity for dealing with commercial waste based on more collaborative and co-ordinated approaches between all stakeholders. Delivery of these aims is being carried out under the following 2 corresponding programmes of work: 1) Business Support Programme 2) Strategic Partnership Programme

9 www.glosfirst.co.uk Project Aims and Objectives Business Support Programme Providing SME’s in Gloucestershire with a clear gateway to advice and support on commercial waste and resource efficiency issues. Business Support Programme Objectives: a)To promote the benefits to Gloucestershire's businesses of more sustainable and resource efficient approaches to dealing with commercial waste. b)To provide Gloucestershire's businesses with a single first point of contact for advice on commercial waste and resource efficiency issues.

10 www.glosfirst.co.uk Project Aims and Objectives Business Support Programme Key features of this advice and support service: 1) Provision of practical advice and guidance on developing more sustainable waste management strategies. 2)Brokering links between businesses and appropriate solution providers. 3)Communicating and clarifying legal obligations for businesses waste. 4)Signposting to partners and further sources of help.

11 www.glosfirst.co.uk Project Aims and Objectives Business Support Programme Objectives delivered through– Gloucestershire Recycle at Work Campaign: 1.A website providing a visible focal point and gateway for information and activity around commercial waste and resource efficiency. 2.A free telephone and email helpline providing an information and referral advice service to all SME businesses within Gloucestershire. 3.A programme of presentations, seminars, workshops and other events to promote the campaign message and the support services available to businesses.

12 www.glosfirst.co.uk Project Aims and Objectives Business Support Programme Objectives delivered through– Gloucestershire Recycle at Work Campaign: 4)Provision of a comprehensive local suppliers register to help businesses identify appropriate organisations that can provide reuse and recycling solutions for different waste streams. 5)Features in local media, business press and trade journals to promote the campaign message and the support services available to business. 6)The dissemination of publicity material (electronic and printed) promoting the campaign and providing practical advice to the Counties businesses

13 www.glosfirst.co.uk Project Aims and Objectives Strategic Partnership Programme Strategic activity to build more co-ordinated, integrated and sustainable approaches to the way commercial waste is handled in Gloucestershire. Providing a co-ordinating focal point around which a network of partners can come together to develop collaborative partnership opportunities.

14 www.glosfirst.co.uk Project Aims and Objectives Strategic Partnership Programme Strategic Partnership Programme Objectives: a)To build the knowledge base and capacity of local authorities and other stakeholders to engage with commercial waste issues. b)To open and facilitate dialogue between businesses and waste management organisations and to support market development activities. c)To stimulate, facilitate and support the development of partnership solutions between public /private and third sector organisations

15 www.glosfirst.co.uk Project Aims and Objectives Strategic Partnership Programme Strategic Partnership Programme Objectives: d)To identify and disseminate best practice from national, regional and local activity through a learning network. e)To inform the development of Gloucestershire’s future strategic priorities on commercial waste. f)To link and co-ordinate local activity with the work of regional and national agencies on commercial waste and resource efficiency. g)To develop initiatives to support and expand the Counties material recovery and waste recycling sector.
