Calabogie Race Track: 5.05 km (3.14 mile) located in Renfrew County, Ontario, near Ottawa. Layout design by Wilson Motorsport Inc. Consists of 20 turns, 40 feet wide, and featuring a 2,000 ft. long straightaway. The design plan considered all operational and safety elements for race events and professional level events. Constructed 2004-2006; revisited in July 2014, by the 1 st author - Project Manager (worked for the owner)

It has also been used by major automobile manufacturers for testing track, for the Harley-Davidson XR1200, for instance. The track opened in September 2006, immediately after the asphalt paving completion. The track has hosted numerous Canadian and international racing events including Castrol Canadian and Superbike Championship, club level car and motorcycle competition. 2014 revisit after 8 years HMA paving completion

Processing quarry rock mined near the construction site. Aggregate base course is constructed. The HMA aggregate was also quarried from local pit and crushed and processed near the site. The types of quarry rock were dolomitic, traprock, and meta-Arkose. PMA was selected for surface course. 2004 – 2006:

High stability surface mix for highway pavement was used for race track wear course. HL8 was used for HMA base course. Echelon paving and MTV were employed for HMA paving and temperatures were checked constantly.

The hydrated lime was applied by using a common rotary type garden fertilizer spreader (not a broadcast spreader) to keep the hydrated lime as close to the asphalt pavement surface as possible. Continuous echelon paving including night paving

Quality management: More stringent QC by Contractor and QA by the Engineer (for the Owner) Skid resistance: highway standard Smoothness: 3mm/12m or 0.15 in./40 ft. HMA being transferred to MTV

A heavy loaded truck was used to make static sharp turning of wheels to check the stiffness of HMA surface after approximate one week of paving, prior to opening to test drives. Finished surface texture of the race track

It was known and not uncommon that some tracks may have distress beginning with raveling or lose aggregate, very quickly under the loads imposed by race cars and motorcycles. The site inspection in 2014 indicted that the Track surface demonstrated a very good condition after 8 years’ service when inspected. The site showed no raveling, cracking and settlements and unevenness. It was agreed that an instrumental measuring be conducted in summer 2016. Eight years later
