1 A “JUMP START” to Graduation Presented by: Freshmen Counselor: Mrs. Caroline Sayles, M.Ed., PLPC Sophomore Counselor: Mr. Todd Olivier, M. Ed., LPC, NCC

2 What is JUMP START? JUMP START is Louisiana’s revamped Career Diploma It provides career courses and workplace experiences to high school students It helps to meet Louisiana’s economic work-force needs

3 What it Means for Students JUMP START prepares students to continue their education after high school while enabling them to attain industry certifications most likely to lead to high-wage careers Experiences are tailored to students’ interest which can motivate them to succeed

4 JUMP START Terminology Graduation Pathways- indicate how students can graduate with a Jump Start diploma by taking courses and attaining industry credentials relevant to an industry sector. Credential /Certification- Terms used synonymously (along with IBC). Industry-Based Certification (IBC)- An industry-issued certifications that are required for graduation with a Jump Start Diploma.

5 JUMP START Terminology Regional Graduation Pathway- Students must complete their core academic requirements, 9 credits of CTE courses indicated in the pathway, plus both a Regional Core credential and two Complementary credentials. Regional Core Credential- Core credentials prepare a student for a specific career path relevant to a region’s economy (example: customer service). Core credentials are similar to a “major” for regional pathways. Complementary Credential- safety or computer literacy credential that has value across multiple industries.
