Brookhaven Sharks Background Brookhaven Sharks have a proud history. – We are strong technically. – We have LOTS of spirit. – We have grown – 20 to 200 swimmers! – Division Champs 2015! Brookhaven Sharks What Can You Expect at Practice? The MORE you come to practice – the BETTER your swimmer will get! The first 3-4 weeks are stroke technique – try to cover a stroke a week. Swimming has a lot of rules. If you practice it wrong – you will do it wrong in meets! This is called a DQ! 1-2 days are endurance days.

Brookhaven Sharks Rookie Camp This is our first year for Rookie Camp. It is designed for new swimmers. We will focus on introducing strokes and swim terminology. May 23-26 – 4:30-5:15 (under 8) – 5:15-6:00 (over 8) Keep your fingers crossed for warm and DRY weather!

Brookhaven Sharks Afternoon Practices May 31-June 2 – Entire team practices 4:30-5:15 rookies only 5:15-6:00 returning swimmers ages 4-8 6:00-6:45 returning swimmers ages 9 and up

Brookhaven Sharks Regular Practice Schedule Morning Practices: – Tuesday-Friday 8AM 11 and up and experienced 9&10 9AM 9&10 and experienced 7&8 10AM 8 and unders Evening Practices: – Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 7:15-8:15 all ages, reserved for working parents or campers

Brookhaven Sharks Practice Suggestions What to Bring? – Goggles – already adjusted! – Warm Towel – A Swim Cap for the Girls – A Swim Suit that won’t fall down! Be on Time and Ready to Get In!

Brookhaven Sharks Monday Meets The Best Part of the week is Monday - Swim Meet Day! This is what the kids have been working for all week! Swim Meets are 5 minutes of action packed into 5 HOURS of FUN!

Brookhaven Sharks Monday Meets Swim meets are super fun if we are prepared! – Confirm the swimmers attendance at the BCC Sharks website by the deadline. Lots of prep goes into a meet. – Provide guidance on what your child would like to swim. Coach has the final say based on practice attendance and performance – Swimmers must demonstrate correct strokes for fly and breast to swim these in a meet – Relays are typically determined by the fastest times Swimmers can only swim 4 events – 3 individual / 1 relay – 2 individual / 2 relays

Brookhaven Sharks Monday Meets What are the Events? – 10 and under 25 free, back, breast, fly 100 IM 100 Free relay and medley relay – 11 and up 50 free, back, breast, fly 100 IM 200 free relay and medley relay

Brookhaven Sharks Monday Meets All Parents must volunteer at EVERY meet! There are Jobs for Everyone: – Timers – watch the meet! – Ribbon Writers/Meet Manager – in the shade! – Photographer/Slide Show – lots of smiles! – Shark Cove Parent – play games! – Relay Parents – cheer on the kids! – Stroke and turn judges – learn about swimming!

Brookhaven Sharks Monday Meets Come Prepared! – Sunscreen, towels, goggles, team cap, suit, and shirt, water, healthy snacks. – Stay out of the sun during the day. – Get to bed early. – HYDRATE! You will receive the events that your child is swimming prior to the meet. – Write their numbers on their arm / last name on their left shoulder in sharpie! Sit in the designated age group area and check in with a Shark Cove Parent. It is the swimmer’s responsibility to get to the ready bench!

Brookhaven Sharks Championship Meets You must attend 2 dual meets to qualify. Schedule your vacation early in the season – don’t want to miss these meet! Champs is July 11. All Stars is July 12. – Must swim in Champs and be one of the top 16 finishers. – Many of our “A” relays qualify.
