3 1. IT infrastructure improvement programme

4 Improving our IT Lewisham Council is investing £2.5m in modern, reliable and flexible infrastructure. The programme to upgrade the infrastructure began in January and the major elements of the programme will be complete in the autumn. Alongside this Lewisham and Brent Council’s have put in place a new IT shared service, which went live on April 1.

5 Improving our IT Highlights from the infrastructure improvement programme 1960 ‘thin clients’ rolled out and commissioned, with final outlying sites to be completed by the end of August 146 Xerox ‘follow me’ printers rolled out and commissioned A new remote desktop solution tested and rolled out that allows access to the Lewisham desktop from any internet enabled computer Over 1000 iPads and iPhones deployed ‘Bring Your Own Device’ now available for all Council staff Key systems migrated to new servers and upgraded with final server migration to be completed by end of September Significant upgrades to network links and internet capacity

7 The vision for Lewisham The digital programme is a key part of our aim to make Lewisham the best place to live, work and learn. The vision is to create a truly ‘digital by choice’ council, underpinned by a programme of support to ensure our residents can access services online. We will: develop great online services that people can access from their mobile and at home Create a ‘’digital front door’’ for our services provide council staff with mobile technology to improve how they deliver their services to our residents, for example, allowing more straightforward social care assessments and food inspections Deliver a mobile workforce and make the council paperless ensure our services are as effective and efficient as they can be through end-to-end service redesign, ensuring we are focussing our resources on the front line rather than back office administration Use technology to transform our services look at how we manage our data and explore the case for an integrated data management system to reduce fraud and improve efficiency and service design Review how we manage our data

9 Creating a digital borough Our ‘’digital borough’’ work will ensure that residents are able to get online The Digital Borough work is focussed on providing digital skills and digital inclusion. This covers activities such as: Digital Skills training; Delivering public access to Wi-Fi; Support to schools and educational institutions; Support to businesses; Improving the digital economy; and Introducing technology in the community.
