12
BW 8/24 ■What do the mirrors do inside a DSLR camera?
13
Agenda 8/24 ■Review Handling and Anatomy ■Experiment with ISO – generate a Hypothesis and Test It Out ■Notes on ISO –Reminder – Register for Ms. Casto’s class by Friday && purchase a MICRO SD with ADAPTER
14
Handling
15
ISO – LIGHTING!! ■In very basic terms, ISO is the level of sensitivity of your camera to available light. ■The lower the ISO number, the less sensitive it is to the light, while a higher ISO number increases the sensitivity of your camera.
16
ISO Speed ■100-400 Sunny Outdoors ■400-1600 Overcast or evening ■1600-6900 Dark indoors or night
17
■In Auto (A+), you cannot adjust the ISO -- the speed will be set & displayed when you press the shutter button ■On the Mode Dial – can be set to M (Manual), A-Dep (Auto Depth of Field), TV (Shutter Priority) and P (Program AE) Mode Dial
19
Test it out! With a partner, take pictures inside the classroom using different ISO speeds. 1.Set the camera to Manual on the Mode Dial. (Make sure the Lens is in “MF” mode – it’s a switch on the lens) 2.Press the ISO button. 3.Set the ISO speed to 100 & take a picture. 4.Set the ISO to 400 & take a picture. 5.ISO speed 800. 6.ISO speed 1600. 7.ISO speed 6400.
20
Results ■Which ISO Speed took the best picture for the lighting in this classroom?
21
BW 8/25 ■Using your notes for reference, which ISO Speed would you use to shoot pictures in low-light or night time pictures?
22
Agenda 8/25 ■Review ISO Speeds ■Tripod Demonstration ■Test ISO Speeds inside classroom with lights off ■Test ISO Speeds outdoors in bright sun
23
ISO Speed ■100-400 Sunny Outdoors ■400-1600 Overcast or evening ■1600-6900 Dark indoors or night
24
Tripod Use ■The tripod will allow you to have maximum stability while taking pictures
25
Test it out… indoors with lights off! 1.Set the camera to (P) Program AE on the Mode Dial. 2.Make sure the Lens is in “MF” mode – it’s a switch on the lens 3.Press the ISO button. 4.Set the ISO speed to 100 & take a picture. 5.Set the ISO to 400 & take a picture. 6.ISO speed 800. 7.ISO speed 1600. 8.ISO speed 6400.
26
Results Which ISO Speed made the Shutter stay open the longest? Why?
27
Test it out… outdoors! 1.Set the camera to (M) Manual on the Mode Dial.
28
BW 8/26 What happens when you leave the shutter open for a long time?
29
Agenda 8/26 ■Read “Film Speed” pg. 18 – 19 in Photography text book ■Review ISO ■Learn about Manual Setting ■Go outside and shoot in sunny lighting conditions –Sign up for Ms. Casto’s class TODAY –BRING A FLASH DRIVE – we will be ERASING the SD cards next week
30
“Film Speeds” – pg. 18 & 19 (write the questions and answer in SKB) 1.Does a slow ISO speed require more or less light? 2.Which ISO speed captures the maximum amount of detail? 3.Which ISO speed is best suited for casual photography, such as Portraits? 4.Which ISO speed creates the most “visual noise” or a “grainy” appearance?
