Temperate Forest By: Adam Schneck, Imran Guliyeva, Caelen Moran

Geologic Features Mild temperature Some parts are mountains Most of the temperate forest is wooded 500 tons of biomass per every one acre.

Climate A majority of this biome has mild summers around 70 degrees F. This biome is usually close to large bodies of water such as lakes rivers and oceans. Because of its location it is often subject to large amounts of wind which results in storms moving in and out very quickly. People that live in this area often say “ You don’t like the wait a minute it will change” which refers back to the previous point about the fast moving weather.

Types of Plants Stinging Nettle- Commonly known for its uncomfortable sting, it has many practical uses, including edible, medicinal, and great qualities. Western Red Cedar -Traditionally, The wood was used for plank long houses, canoes, paddles, and many other types of tools. Salmonberry- Salmonberry is related to blackberry and raspberry, and produces an edible berry in the spring that looks like an orange-colored raspberry.

Human Impact Over time our coal burning power plants, cars, and factories slowly pollute the clouds When this pollution mixes with the clouds it produces acid rain which kills the trees and plants. Humans often cut down the temperate forest to clear room for farming

What's Worth Money Many of the trees that grow in the temperate forest are good to use as timber, making ships, furniture, paper, and houses. The soil of the temperate forest is very rich and wonderful for farming.

Weather Gets and average rainfall of 30 to 60 inches a year Has four distinct seasons fall, winter, spring, and summer In the fall and months leading up to winter most of the trees leaves change colors and fall off When spring comes around after a snowy winter the leaves start to grow back They will eventually fall off the following autumn
