3 Types of collaboration in digitisation Collaboration between archives, libraries and museums Joint efforts with public and commercial partners:  With organisations that have similar objectives or related collections  With governmental and other organisations being continuous donors/participants of digitisation initiatives  With commercial enterprises supporting digitisation to pursue economic benefits Outsourcing digitisation services

4 Research design Research questions:  To what extent archives, libraries and museums engage in collaborative networks?  What types of institutions archives, libraries and museums tend to collaborate with the most?  What types of contractors archives, libraries and museums tend to collaborate with the most?  What are the differences and commonalities of collaborative networks of archives, libraries and museums? Data source: NUMERIC questionnaire comment section Methods: qualitative & quantitative content analysis combined Measure unit – collaboration intensiveness 134 institutions provided information about partners, 200 institutions provided information about contractors

7 Results General tendencies:  Low average collaboration intensiveness with digitisation partners  Self-oriented networks of partners  Traditional collaboration patterns  Well-developed relations with commercial contractors Tendencies in a specific institution:  Museums had the largest partners’ & contractors’networks  Archives had the smallest partners’ & contractors’ networks  Library partners’ networks were the most self-oriented  Libraries were the most active collaborators in partners’ networks  Archives were the most active collaborators in contractors’ networks

8 Conclusions Reasons for engagement in networks:  High demand for resources not available in memory institutions  Safe and well-known collaboration landscape Although sufficient variety of partners/contractors were present most collaborations are at the stages of early exploration
