Count the cost of discipleship St. Peter Worship at Key to Life Saturday, September 3 rd

Welcome to St. Peter! For the past three Sundays we have seen that the narrow path to heaven is marked by division and humility. Yet another warning is heard this week: the life of faith may come at great personal expense. Counting the cost of discipleship leads to true wisdom.

Welcome to St. Peter! There are friendship registers at the end of each row. Please take a moment to give us your information so that we have a record of your time with us today. Thank you!

For Our Guests If you have questions, let us try to help. Speak with an usher, greeter, or the person next to you. If you’d like to learn more about St. Peter and its ministry, please talk to a pastor or member after the service.

Prayer before Worship O Savior, help me to realize the cost of following you. It’s not cheap – it costs everything. But then so did our salvation which you earned on the cross. Teach us to use that as our motivation to follow you at all costs to one day share heaven with you! Amen

Please be courteous and silence all pagers and cell phones. Thank you

Jesus Calls Us O'er the Tumult CW #463 Verses 1-5 Text: Cecil F. Alexander, 1818-95 Setting: STUTTGART Tune: Christian F. Witt, 1660-1716, alt.

Verse 1: Jesus calls us o'er the tumult Of our life's wild, restless sea; Day by day his voice invites us, Saying, "Christian, follow me!"

Verse 2: As the first disciples heard it By the Galilean lake, Turned from home and toil and kindred, Leaving all for his dear sake.

Verse 3: Jesus calls us from the worship Of the vain world's golden store, From each idol that would keep us, Saying, "Christian, love me more."

Verse 4: In our joys and in our sorrows, Days of toil and hours of ease, Still he calls, in cares and pleasures, "Christian, love me more than these."

Verse 5 (Please Rise): Jesus calls us! In your mercy, Savior, help us hear your call; Give our hearts to your obedience. Serve and love you best of all!

Opening Verses Pastor: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you. All: And also with you.

Confession of Sin Pastor: We have come into the presence of God, who created us to love and to serve him as his dear children. But we have disobeyed him and deserve only his wrath and punishment. Therefore, let us confess our sins to him and plead for his mercy.

Confession of Sin All: Merciful Father in heaven, I am altogether sinful from birth. In countless ways I have sinned against you and do not deserve to be called your child.

Confession of Sin All: But trusting in Jesus, my Savior, I pray: Have mercy on me according to your unfailing love. Cleanse me from my sin, and take away my guilt.

(Pastor announces our forgiveness) All: Amen.

Prayer and Praise Pastor: In the peace of forgiveness, let us praise the Lord:

Oh Taste and See All (♫): Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good. Blessed are they who take refuge in him. Your Word, O Lord, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens.

Oh Taste and See All: Your faithfulness continues forever. Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good. Blessed are they who take refuge in him.

Prayer of the Day Pastor: Let us pray. (The pastor says the Prayer of the Day.) All (♫): Amen.

Pastor: The law of the LORD is perfect, giving joy to the heart. All: The commands of the LORD are radiant, giving light to the eyes.

Refrain (All ♫):

Pastor: They are more precious than gold; they are sweeter than honey. All: By them is your servant taught; in keeping them there is great reward.

Jesus, I My Cross Have Taken CW #465 Verse 1-4 Text: Henry F. Lyte, 1793-1847 Setting: HYFRYDOL Tune: Rowland H. Prichard, 1811-87

Verse 1: Jesus, I my cross have taken, All to leave and follow you. Destitute, despised, forsaken, You on earth once suffered, too.

Verse 1: Perish ev’ry fond ambition, All I’ve ever hoped or known; Yet how rich is my condition! God and heav’n are still my own.

Verse 2: Let the world despise and leave me; They have left my Savior, too. Human hearts and looks deceive me; You are not, like them, untrue.

Verse 2: And since you have smiled upon me, God of wisdom, love, and might, Foes may hate and friends may shun me—Show your face, and all is bright.

Verse 3: Go, then, earthly fame and treasure! Come, disaster, scorn, and pain! In your service pain is pleasure; With your favor loss is gain.

Verse 3: I have called you Abba, Father! You my all in all shall be. Storms may howl, and clouds may gather; All must work for good to me.

Verse 4: Haste, my soul, from grace to glory, Armed by faith and winged by prayer. All but heav’n is transitory; God’s own hand shall guide you there.

Verse 4: Soon shall end this earthly story; Swift shall pass the pilgrim days, Hope soon change to heav’nly glory, Faith to sight and prayer to praise.
