Characteristics define a perfectly linguistic person The majority of people will not have every characteristic of linguistic intelligence A lot of personality traits make or break us. We need to understand that our inborn talents give us an outline inside which our personalities bloom. A person is not born with all the intelligence they will ever possess Just because you have high intelligence in one area does not mean you have high intelligence in another area. Areas of intelligence are independent of each other THEORY OF MULTIPLE INTELLIGENCES “It is not how smart you are that matters, what counts is how you are smart.” Howard Gardner

One of the nine multiple intelligences Theory of Multiple Intelligences – Theory of intelligence that differentiates it into specific (primarily sensory) “modalities”, rather than seeing intelligence as dominated by a single general ability. – Proposed by Howard Gardner in 1982 Frames of Mind: The Theory of Multiple Intelligences WHAT IS LINGUISTIC INTELLIGENCE?

Linguistic Intelligence Body/Kinesthetic Intelligence – Athleticism and the ability to use the human body Existential Intelligence – Sensitivity and capacity to tackle deep questions about human existence Interpersonal Intelligence – Ability to relate to others and understand them Intrapersonal Intelligence – Deep understanding of oneself and ones limitations and goals NINE MULTIPLE INTELLIGENCES

Logical Mathematical Intelligence – Includes deductive reasoning, critical thinking, and understanding of complex mathematical equations Musical Intelligence – Ability to distinguish between music and sound patterns, rhythms, etc Naturalistic Intelligence – Ability to distinguish between different elements in the environment and knowledge about nature Visual/Spatial Intelligence – Ability to detect different patterns and designs in places and use or manipulate them NINE MULTIPLE INTELLIGENCES

Characteristics – Good at remembering written and spoken information – Enjoys reading and writing – Good at debating or giving persuasive speeches – Often uses humor when telling stories – Enjoys word games – Has large vocabulary – Excellent speller WHAT IS LINGUISTIC INTELLIGENCE?

Characteristics – Enjoys listening to the spoken word – Good with languages – Good at remembering quotes and sayings – Can write poems – Often knows multiple languages – Reads everything they can get their hands on – Appreciates nonsense rhymes, puns, tongue twisters, etc. – Has a good memory for names, places, dates, and/or trivia WHAT IS LINGUISTIC INTELLIGENCE?
