COOPERATING SCHOOLS/ COUNTRIES: Latvia The Czech Republic Turkey Poland OBJECTIVES/ AIMS: The aim of this research is to find out what relationship parents of the partners’ schools have with the school. To reach the aim such objectives were set: To analyze theoretical literature and have theoretical basis about relationship between parents and school; To create a questionnaire to be handed out in each involved partner country; To collect and summarize data; To analyze data and make conclusions about the situation. Background problem H ow to achieve parents’ involvement in the school activities, problem solving, welfare and discipline issues as well as active partnership in their children’s academic achievements. Parents are more likely to support a school program in which they are partners in decision-making and welcome at times other than when their children are in trouble. 4 Mental Health : Relationship between Parents and School

Major types of family involvement Type I Basic obligations of parents Basic levels of support for health & safety, nutrition, housing, parenting skills and child rearing, family activities to support children learning Type II Basic obligations of schools to communicate effectively with families about programs and child progress Type III Involvement of parents at school Volunteers to carry out activities 5 Mental Health : Relationship between Parents and School

Type IV Family involvement in learning activities at home Skills to pass grade, help on homework, curriculum Type V Decision-making, participation, leadership, and school advocacy Parents – Teachers Association, Advisory Councils & Committees, Independent School Advocacy Groups Type VI Collaborations and Exchanges with the Community Connections to enable school, students, and families to contribute to the community and vice versa 6 Mental Health : Relationship between Parents and School
