3. The first step in a costume is research and inspiration. This step involves looking at images of extant garments, and reading dress diaries of reproductions. Here are pictures of an extant Renaissance chemise, and two gowns that could be worn over it.

4. The next step is to go shopping for fabric and drafting the patterns. The top image is a bodice pattern draft. You would use this to help you make a pattern for a bodice.

5. In this phase of the project comes the actual sewing. Here are some details of Renaissance chemises and petticoats commonly seen. They include cartridge pleats, and bias binding over gathers.
