PSAT: October 19 th, 2016 National Merit Scholarship Program for Juniors. All Juniors received letters sent home in English Classes 9/23/2016. Juniors who scored in top 76% on last year’s PSAT are invited to take PSAT at no cost. Students must return letter with parent signature to by September 30 th. Juniors who did not score in the top 76% can opt into testing. Must return signed letter with $15.00 check made payable to CCPS by September 30 th. Limited seats.

The Accelerated Collegiate Experience (ACE): Full time program limited to qualified junior and senior high school students. Can not take any courses at GCHS. Admission Officers asked us to make it clear to the parents and students: If you choose to do dual enrollment you will start your college transcript and grade point average the minute you earn your first dual enrollment credit.

Look @ School Websites to see what type of application is required. Common Application CommonApp.org is currently accepted by over 450 colleges and universities; many of these are private schools. The idea was to make the admissions process more uniform and save students time in entering the same information over and over. Boston University, University of Michigan etc. Send.EDU

UF, FSU Require SSAR is an online form where you enter your high school and dual enrollment courses/grades as well as your 12 th grade courses in progress. It is recommended that you get a unofficial transcript from Student Services Office to complete the SSAR. Look to see more SUS Schools move towards using SSAR in future.

The application/registration process begins October1 st of students senior year. Seniors complete BF Application (FL Financial Aid Application) in Gov’t/ Econ Classes in Fall. Registration Instructions are also available on the GCHS Counselor Website under Scholarships/Bright Futures Registration Instructions. The application must be completed in order to be eligible for Bright Futures Scholarships. SENIORS TAKING GOV’T/ECON ON FLVS OR D/E?? PLEASE COMPLETE BF APPLICATION @ HOME OR CONTACT YOUR COUNSELOR.

COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS ARE NOT A GRADUATION REQUIREMENT. New State Policy effective September 2016. (Does not effect hours earned prior to Sept. 2016) Non-profit organization or may include a business or government internship or activity on behalf of a candidate for public office. The site is related to service, humanitarian/caring, community needs. PRIOR TO VOLUNTEERING: MUST COMPLETE PRE-APPROVAL VOLUNTEER REQUEST FORM. Have signed by counselor. ◦ Students are now required to identify a social or civic issue, or a professional area of interest and plan via the pre-approval volunteer request form. ◦ Pre-Approval Forms available on Guidance Website or in the Student Services Office.

In order to play college sports, students must register with NCAA http://www.ncaaclearinghouse.com/ (online registration); the fee is $70.00. http://www.ncaaclearinghouse.com/ Athletes must be certified by the NCAA Clearinghouse and meet academic and athletic requirements. A copy of the NCAA release must be given to Data Entry Clerk in Student Services for transcripts to be released to colleges and coaches
