2 What Is Persecution? “Any hostility experienced from the world as a result of one’s identification as a Christian” -Open Doors USA Research suggests that Christians in more than 60 countries face persecution from governments, neighbors, and even family members. Persecution comes in many forms from hostile words and attitudes to physical torture and death. Each day Christians make the choice to endure this harsh treatment rather than turn from Jesus Christ.

15 What Does the Bible Say about Persecution? 2 Corinthians 1:5 For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ. 2 Corinthians 12:10 That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

16 What Does the Bible Say about Persecution? Ephesians 6:18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. 1 Peter 3:14 But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. “Do not fear their threats; do not be frightened.”

For strength and courage For opportunities to share the Gospel despite persecution That those separated from their families will be reunited For comfort for those who have converted and been disowned by family For health and safety That God will touch the hearts of oppressors That those displaced from their homes will be able to return That believers will forgive, love, and pray for their persecutors

19 Get Your Church Involved Create a prayer calendar leading up to Nov. 6 Have each Sunday School class or small group pray for a specific persecuted country Join other congregations to raise awareness for International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church

20 Get Your Church Involved Dedicate a children’s service to teaching about persecution and praying for children in persecuted countries Find stories of persecuted believers at worldhelp.net/blog and share them with your congregation
