Plan B – what it’s all about… Can be used up to 5 days (120 Hours) after sex without a condom or other birth control (like the pill). The sooner it’s used the better it works to prevent pregnancy. NOT 100% - must come in for pregnancy test if don’t get a regular period within 3 weeks. Available free at Community Health offices & Youth Clinics. Available for cost ($30-$60) at pharmacies (don’t need a doctor’s prescription).

Condoms – what they’re all about... Barrier – prevents genital fluids from mixing and transferring Protection- against pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs)

How do you get an STI? From sexual contact via body fluids like semen, vaginal fluids, and blood From mother to baby during pregnancy, childbirth or breastfeeding From sharing needles, toothbrushes, razor and sex toys Skin to Skin

Symptoms (you may have)… Change in amount/colour of fluid from penis or vagina Burning, itching, redness “Awareness” of the inside of penis Bumps or sores (may be painful or not) Rash on palms, genitals, belly Pain while peeing or peeing more often Itching, pain, bleeding, white fluid from anus

Symptoms con’t… Unusual period or other bleeding Infection of testicles – leading to sore and swollen testicles Infection of the female reproductive tract – leading to pain during sex, lower stomach pain, fever Pink eye or sore throat that doesn’t go away

TYPES OF SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED INFECTIONS Bacterial-(Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Trichomonas, Syphillis) Can all be treated with Antibiotics Viral- (HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis B, Herpes, Genital Warts) Hep B and HPV can be prevented through immunizations Parasitic-(Pubic Lice and Scabies) Treatable with creams, lotions and shampoos
