Assessment Checklists Essay Assessment What point am I making? What is the subject stated in my thesis and what is my opinion on the subject? What are my main points to support my opinion? Are my ideas and examples connected and easy to follow? If not, please make suggestions. How can I improve clarity in my essay? What changes should I make?

Assessment Checklists (2) Proofreading Write “frag” next to any sentence fragments. Write “cs” next to any comma splices. Write “rs” next to any run-on sentences. Write “sp” next to spelling errors. Write “t” next to incorrect verb tenses. Write “sub/verb agr” next to any areas with subject/verb agreement problems.

Assessment Checklists (3) Argument Does the topic sentence clarify the writer's stance on the issue? Are there sufficient examples and details to support the stance? Put a * (star) next to any issues in tone. What logical fallacies do you see? Offer suggestions of how to repair these. Is the essay in emphatic order? What's the best part of the essay? What areas still need work?

Rubric This week's rubric is adapted from one used for Composition 101 at Fulton College.

Peer Review Session Have at least 2 people review your essay, using the assessments and rubric. By the end of the session, each of you should have credit for your rough draft and two peer reviews—anything more will be extra credit.
