AP English Language and Composition Students choosing AP English Language should be interested in studying and writing various kinds of analytical or persuasive essays on nonliterary topics.

This course substitutes for a college composition course 3AP English Language allows students to write in a variety of forms—narrative, explanatory, expository, argumentative—and on a variety of subjects from personal experiences to public policies, from imaginative literature to popular culture.

As in a college writing course, AP English Language will enable students to read complex texts with understanding and to write prose of sufficient richness and complexity in order to communicate effectively with mature readers.

Therefore, this course will emphasize the expository, analytical, and argumentative writing that forms the basis of academic and professional communication.

The course reading material will include a text book of persuasive essays, internet opinion pieces from various newspapers and periodicals, and some nonfiction writing from the junior level text.
