Working in the science lab can be EXCITING! However, the lab can be dangerous if proper safety rules are not followed at all times. Science Lab This Way!
4
In order to prepare for a safe year in the science lab, we are going to review a few basic safety rules…. Preparation is KEY!
5
Safety Rules To Follow Most important!!! Listen to teacher
6
Safety Rules To Follow A teacher must be present
7
No belongings near lab stations or flames. Safety Rules To Follow

13
Wash your hands after every experiment. Safety Rules To Follow
14
Read and follow all directions Safety Rules To Follow Lab Directions
15
Immediately tell your teacher if you get hurt. Safety Rules To Follow
16
Never use broken glassware. Safety Rules To Follow

Keep lids on bottles (and containers) when not in use. Safety Rules To Follow
25
Always clean up your work area and equipment after an experiment is completed. Equipment must be returned to its proper place. Safety Rules To Follow
26
Time for a Quiz! Let’s test your science lab safety knowledge!
27
Lab Safety Quiz Long hair must be tied back in the lab. True or False?
28
Lab Safety Quiz You need to tie your hair back to prevent it from getting in the way. If you have loose hair while using a Bunsen burner or candle, it may get burned. True
29
Lab Safety Quiz What things do you need to wear when working with chemicals or anything that could get in your eyes? A)Lab Coat B)Goggles C)Gloves D)All of these
30
Lab Safety Quiz You should always wear goggles, when working with chemicals or anything that can get in your eyes. Follow this rule to prevent getting chemicals into your eyes. B) Goggles
31
Lab Safety Quiz What should you do if a glass breakage occurs? A)Leave it where it is without telling anyone. B)Touch it to see if it is safe. C)Run out of the classroom. D)Immediately tell your teacher.
32
Lab Safety Quiz If you accidentally break some glass, do not touch it because it may contain dangerous substances that may affect your skin or be poisonous. Tell your teacher immediately so it can be cleaned up as quickly as possible and not create a hazard for anyone else. D) Immediately tell your teacher.
33
Lab Safety Quiz What should you maintain in your lab work area? A)A messy work space. B)A clean and tidy work space. C)Chemicals spread all around you. D)Lots of food and drink.

36
Lab Safety Quiz If you are using a Bunsen burner and the flame leaps out toward you, turn off the gas immediately to prevent getting burned. Always stay a safe distance away from the Bunsen burner while using it. C) Get out of the way and turn off the gas immediately (or tell your teacher too).
37
Lab Safety Quiz Always point a test tube or bottle that is being heated toward you and others. True or False?
38
Lab Safety Quiz Chemicals can splash or boil out of a heated test tube or bottle. Never hold a test tube toward you or others because it may break and chemicals may splash onto your clothes. Always be aware while holding a test tube: remember always point it AWAY from you and other people. False
