5. HISTORY AUDIO/VIDEO PRODUCTION 1 The first dated printed book known, made in China 868 A.D. Johannes Gutenburg invented the printing press which allowed for mass production in 1453. First book printed was the Latin Bible Newspapers developed in 1612, first example in English 1620. The Times first made its circulation in the early 1800s. The phrase “the media” began in 1920s. 20 th century the growth of mass media was driven by technology.
