Programming – applications software – is what makes a computer a flexible and powerful tool. Companies large and small rely on computers for virtually every aspect of running a business. Most businesses depend on a variety of software applications to complete tasks. The most commonly used application software in business is an office application suite. These suites include several applications that are designed to work together to manage and create different types of documents and include features that allow multiple users to collaborate.

Microsoft Web Apps, Google Docs, and Zoho Docs are all examples of personal SaaS. For businesses there are more powerful, fee-based tools. Google Apps for Business and Microsoft Office 365 include collaboration tools, email, calendar, and documents. Applying an update to an application on each computer can be a costly, time-consuming process. With a SaaS solution, the updates happen on the remote system and do not impact the local users.
