11/19/2016 kochjo Earth and Reservoir Modelling Committee Past, Present And Future Jens-Ole Koch, Committee Leader

11/19/2016kochjo Presentation Outline  An overview of what the committee and work groups do and how it it is all organised  Past  Present  Future

11/19/2016kochjo Presentation Outline  An overview of what the committee and work groups do and they are organised  Past  Present  Future Talks from the Network Groups tomorrow on:  Activity in the Sedimentology – Stratigraphy Group: Kjell Sigve Lervik, Statoil  Key activities in the Seismic Methods Group: Brackin Smith, Phillips  Critical Issues within Seismic Methods – Past, present and Future: Olav Barkved, BP  Visualisation – Integrated Work Processes, Activities & Future: Rolf Helland, Norsk Hydro

11/19/2016kochjo Scope and Idea of FORCE MEANS  Stimulate industry cooperation, exchange of key learnings and knowledge  Facilitate initiation of Joint Industry Projects  initiate and organise workshops and seminarsGOALS  Improvement of exploration efficiency  Improvement of quality of resource estimates  Further development of IOR-methods and contribution to IOR on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. FORCE Forum for reservoir characterisation, reservoir engineering and exploration technology

11/19/2016kochjo Past

11/19/2016kochjo A Bit of History Reservoir Modelling Committee (Phase I)  Main effort has been on "Problem-Defining Workshops" and initiated a total of 10 research projects Earth and Reservoir Modelling Committee (Phase II)  New name and broader scope after merge of FORCE and FIND projects.  R&D projects distributed through FORCE network, but signed on by individual companies and not run by the ERMC  Focus shifted more towards seminars and workshops  Formed 5 new ”Special Interest Network Groups” (SING’s)

11/19/2016kochjo Sustain the groups that have interest among the participating companies Extend of openess controlled by the participating companies Do not compete with existing networks Build network groups within key subject areas Main purpose is technology and knowledge transfer Idea behind the SINGS Idea behind the Special Interest Network Groups

11/19/2016kochjo Present Status of ERMC and SINGS

11/19/2016kochjo Organisation and Responsibilities SING’s are formally groups under the E&RMC FORCE secretary update membership lists and information from the SINGS on the FORCE internet homepage SING leaders to participate in E&RMC meetings for information sharing and coordination of activities

11/19/2016kochjo Technical Subjects of the Sings and the ERMC Earth and Reservoir Modelling Committee Advanced Wells Exploration Technology Reservoir Engineering Reservoir Characterisation Finding Uncertainty Visualisation Reservoir Characterisation Seismic Methods Sedimentology/ Stratigraphy MULTI Recovery Other TCM’s

11/19/2016kochjo Role of the Earth and Reservoir Modeling Committee and the SING’s: SING’s will:  Share information on new technology, advanced technology application and key learnings within the professional field of the SING  Work through network meetings, workshop/seminars and facilitation of JIP’s with their own agenda and timing ERMC will:  Co-ordinate and share information on activities in the individual SINGS and support the start up of new groups  Work through network meetings, workshop/seminars and facilitation of JIP’s with more general ERM themes

11/19/2016kochjo Earth and Reservoir Modelling Committee ERMC Jens-Ole Koch, Conoco Edward Prestholm, Statoil Kjell Sigve Lervik, Statoil Jens Martin Hvid, TotalFinaElf Gunnar Søiland, NPD, Niels Jørgen Ventzel Phillips, Bjørn Wandås Fortum Kristian Kolbjørnsen, DNO Tim Lane, BP Morten Bergan, RWE-D Clas Kristensen, Agip, Simon Knight, Pelican Cato Berge, Norske Shell Additional SING Leaders: Brackin Smith,Phillips Rolf Helland, Hydro Anne-Lise.Lysholm, TotalFinaElf Fridtjof Riis, NPD  Leader Jens-Ole Koch, Conoco  13 committie members and 3 additional SING leaders  Worked with the start up of the 5 new SINGs  Workshops/Seminars: Future Research Directions - Interaction between oil companies and research institutions. April, 2002

11/19/2016kochjo Seismic Methods  Leader: Brackin Smith, Phillips  16 Members  3 seminar/workshops: Long Offset Seismic Seminar, 28/2-01 Key uncertainties from Seismic to Geomodelling, June 5 th, 2001 New tools and best practices to improve the use of prestack data (Jan – Feb 2002)  2 Overview talks tomorrow

11/19/2016kochjo Finding Uncertainty  Leader: Anne-Lise Lysholm, TFE  10 Members.  Planning a Workshop on: Basics of statistics and uncertainty, and application in resource evaluation and risking, November 20th, 2001

11/19/2016kochjo Visualisation  Leader: Rolf Helland, Hydro  Members: 13  Visits to visualisation centres and meetings at: Norsk Hydro in Bergen, April 4th BP/Agip (Kidra) Stavanger, June 21st Statoil/NTNU in Trondheim and Chevron/Norsk Hydro in Oslo.  Planning a Seminar on Visualisation in May/June 2002  1 Presentation tomorrow

11/19/2016kochjo Sedimentology/Stratigraphy SING  Leader: Kjell Sigve Lervik, Statoil  Members: 14  3 workshops on: Chlorite coating in sandstone reservoirs, April 4th, 2001 Deep marine core workshop (Mid Norway), 15-16 May. Tidal sandstones core workshop 3-5 December  The group is further working on specifications for a project for a sedimentological analogue data base project.  Overview talk tomorrow

11/19/2016kochjo Reservoir Characterisation Group  Leader: Nils Jørgen Ventzel, Phillips  Members: 11  The group has held one meeting, but has not really started yet

11/19/2016kochjo Multi  Leader, Fridtjof Riis, NPD  Members: 9  The Multi project is aiming at building a common 3D subsurface model with input data from the participating companies  The group has held one meeting, but has not really started yet  Problems to get interpreted data from the companies to share within the project.

11/19/2016kochjo SING Members

11/19/2016kochjo Future

11/19/2016kochjo What will the future bring ? More SING’s – Structural Geology to start soon Other SING’s may die!!  Further development in subsurface evaluation tools  Intelligent seismic attributes, that can find the hydrocarbons??  Increased integration from Interpretation to geo- modelling and reservoir performance.  Increased cooperation and increased use of the Interne and joint databases  Visualisation of everything Virtual Field Trips From Nature: Møre & Vøring Basins will either prosper or fade away Better Understanding and quantification of top- and fault-seal capacity!! Better Understanding and quantification of hydrocarbon migration!!
