Agenda Aluminum Tube Pipe Bending Joints Table Hinge Plastics
3
Aluminum Tube Tube more expensive than raw alloy 6061 least expensive and easiest to find in tube For 12’ of 7/8” diameter, 1/16” wall thickness cost is $36. Weight should be about 2.5 – 3 lbs.
4
Pipe Bending Machinist #1 says bending would require special tools, possibly heating tube, and would be difficult for required bends. Machinist #2 says can be done. Don’t use a 6000 series alloy, probably need a 5000 series alloy. Machinist #3 says can be done. Try packing tube with sand to prevent collapse of the tube.
5
Pipe Bending Difficult Special Skill Thin wall tubing would cause problems in the manufacturing process 90 bend 3/4” OD, 1/8” wall thickness 20” radius cost about $28
6
Joints Joints are readily available in a variety of diameters, angles, materials. Inexpensive Could be attached by a screw or a rivet Would work well for production level manufacturing. Doesn’t require skilled labor. See examples
7
Table Hinge Not a lot of options at hardware store. Locking Hinges Hinge and latch combo
8
Plastics Lexan plastic for table Rigid, inexpensive, easily available Need a more pliable plastic for backing. ABS or other plastic readily available.
