Nebraska's Legislature is unusual in that it is a unicameral. A single house legislature. –The US is bicameral-two houses No other state in the U.S. has a single-chamber legislative body. At 49 members it is also the smallest state legislature It is also nonpartisan. Not separated by political parties.

Senators are chosen for four-year terms. –Go on two year rotations No person may be a senator unless he or she is a qualified voter, over the age of twenty-one. A resident of his or her district for at least one year. Term Limits: Elected officials can only serve a limited number of terms Currently, senators are limited by law to two terms –Can be reelected after sitting out for four years Senators earn $12,000 a year.

Nebraska's unicameral legislature today has rules that bills can contain only one subject. Bills must be given at least five days of consideration.

Nebraska's government is divided into three branches: executive, legislative, and judicial. The head of the executive branch is the Governor. All elected officials in the executive branch serve four-year terms.
