21 Significant Safety Achievements- 5/16 The WPC Activity Lead Self-Assessment project final report has been completed and is ready for submittal. Many of the Level 3 Work Activities are currently undergoing their annual review and re-approval. The old glove box in 62-246 was disconnected and is ready for removal and salvage. This was a very old piece of equipment. Assisted in the DOE chemical safety assessment walkthroughs of ETA lab areas. Provided follow-up on the B70-173 odor issue. The source was identified and corrected. Coordinated the disposal of a number of non-returnable gas cylinders (lecture bottles) found in B62, B63, and B70. Coordinated the return of 6 very old gas cylinders to vendors that do not normally service LBNL. Coordinated the annual calibration/testing of the hydrogen monitoring system in 70- 257. Efforts continue closing out “conditionally approved” and “failed” electrical equipment. Additional old equipment is being pulled from the B70 hallway cabinets. More “old chemical” disposals were arranged in various lab areas in B70.

22 Short Term Safety Outlook 6/16 Start the ETA Electrical Equipment Self Assessment project. This will be the third and final assessment for FY16. Complete the annual renewal of 25 pending Level 3 Work Activities. All require EHS collaboration. We are updating each with “Daily ISM” and “Side Work” requirements. Assist with the upcoming City of Berkeley lab area inspections. Begin development of awareness training for Activity Leads and Lab Safety Leads. Begin development of new hire safety orientation training specific to ETA. Assist with the final removal of the old glove box 62-246. A new glove box will be installed in the space. Continue to address all remaining ETA equipment on the electrical equipment “conditionally authorized” and “failed” lists. Continue removal of old equipment from B70 hallway cabinets. An ETA Safety Committee meeting will be held on 6/2/16.
