Your Notecards How should they be organized? Notecards should be organized by MAIN IDEA/TOPIC. If a source has useful information that deals with two different MAIN IDEAS/TOPICS, make two SEPARATE notecards (e.g. “Negative Impacts of Energy Drinks” and “Connection Between Energy Drink Consumption and Drug Use”). How will I use my notecards to write my persuasive essay? When you are finished with your notecards, you will print them, cut them out, and then organize them into piles based on where in your essay you will use the information contained on the card. For Example: Pile 1- stuff I’ll probably use in my intro. Pile 2- stuff I’ll probably use in my 1 st body para. (related to health effects of smoking) Pile 3-stuff I’ll probably use in my impacts bystanders) 2 nd body para. (related to how smoking negatively effects bystanders) Pile 4-stuff I’ll probably use in my 3 rd body para. (related to how smoking/nicotine can be a gateway drug) Pile 5-stuff I’ll probably use in my intro.

Sample Project thesis: Topic: Smoking Claim/thesis: Selling cigarettes should be illegal. Reason 1: It causes severe health effects to the smoker, including death. Reason 2: It negatively effects bystanders. Reason 3: Cigarettes/Nicotine can be a gateway drug. Selling cigarettes should be illegal because it causes severe health effects for the smoker, it negatively affects bystanders, and the nicotine in cigarettes can be a gateway to other drug use.
