What is formative assessment? Formative Assessment is: improvement focused not grade focused a process not a particular test or task used by both teacher and students provides feedback to teachers and students allows for adjustments in instruction and will improve students’ achievement

Why do formative assessment? At least 20 studies show that the practice of formative assessment produces significant and often substantial learning gains (Black and Wiliam, 1986) Formative assessment helps low achievers more than other students (Black and Wiliam) It helps students become life long learners instead of focusing on competition of grades and fear of failure in low achievers
