Year 3 Outdoor Experience Week Monday 23 rd May- Friday 27 th May

Timetable Monday 23 rd May a.m. ‘Planning a journey off site’. Children to work in groups planning hike to Guilden. Look at local maps, use of signs and symbols. What to do in an emergency? First aid. Countryside/Green cross code. p.m ‘Equipment for a journey off site’. What do we need to take with us? Selection of equipment to choose from. Tuesday 24 th May a.m. Team building games ‘Shelter building’ activity (scenario) p.m. Shelter building in groups to take place in our school wood. Children to be provided with a range of materials.

Timetable Wednesday 25 th May Orienteering day to include:- visitor, learn to use a compass, map symbols, how to read a map, use of these skills within school grounds. Set up camp.

Thursday 26 th May Children to wear suitable clothes for outside. A.M. Team building & sort equipment in tents etc. Hike to Guilden (remember packed lunch) P.M. team games Fire lighting. Dampers. /scavenger hunt DVD Dinner Wide game Campfire Bed

Food Children will need a packed lunch for Thursday. This should be in a carrier bag within their rucksack so all rubbish can be easily disposed of. Children will have a hot meal Thursday evening Children will have a drink and snack late evening Children will be provided with extra drink during the day Small cakes to use throughout the week (provided by parents)! NO sweets or other drinks to be brought by any children please. It leads to ants and sticky messes in tents! Breakfast will be provided on Friday morning

Friday 27 th May It would be good for at least one child in each tent to have a watch. Please could we tell children that there is to be no noise until after at least 6:30. Children will have breakfast. Parents are welcome to arrive from 9:00 to start putting tents down. Parents are also welcome to drop off a packed lunch if needed. Plan is to walk to the meadow to collect materials to make a collage about their week’s experience. Golden time

Kit List ( Everything named) Small rucksack/bag for packed lunch Warm sweater, jumper or sweatshirt,T-shirt or similar, Trousers or shorts (avoid jeans as uncomfortable if wet), Spare underclothes, Spare socks (a couple of pairs) Pyjamas (suitable for wearing in front of adults and children) School shoes (trainers) Waterproof clothing Sun hat, sun cream and sun glasses Sleeping bag/roll mat/pillow (extra blanket) Unbreakable plate, bowl & mug and cutlery (Named and in a bag) Small towel Personal washing kit (Flannel, soap, toothbrush, tooth paste) Hankies Plastic drinks bottle/container Plastic bags for wet/dirty clothes Wellies/boots (depending on weather) Reading material Torch Cuddly toy!

Medical form Please fill in and return the medical form. Mrs Compton-Pierce and Mrs Alexander will be responsible for any medicines. Please hand these to Mrs Alexander on Thursday morning in the original packaging with clear instructions for administration.

Parent help (please!) Provide materials for use in shelter building e.g. tarpaulin, rope, wood (without splinters) Cakes (throughout the week, see day) Putting up tents after school on Wednesday and taking them down Friday morning Fire pit Shelter building, orienteering and hike. Wood for the fire (kindling up to a few bigger pieces)

Plan B? If the weather is really awful e.g. gales and torrential rain these plans will be subject to change. We would still hope to sleepover but inside the school instead. However, the wearing of waterproofs will ensure that most other activities will take place as planned!
