ENY Module 2, Lesson 11 Ob jective: I can multiply decimal fractions by multi-digit whole numbers through conversion to a whole number problem and reasoning about the placement of the decimal.
2
Fluency Practice Multiply single-digit numbers with decimals. Sprint A
3
Fluency Practice Multiply single-digit numbers with decimals. Sprint B How much did you improve?
4
Fluency Practice 1. Multiply 3 x 4.1 2. Multiply the product by 10. 3. Divide the product by 10. What is the answer? 1. Multiply 3 x 2.4 2. Multiply the product by 10. 3. Divide the product by 10. What is the answer? What is 3 x 4 x 17.6 ÷ 17.6?

Application Problem
6
Concept Development: Problem #1 7.38 x 41 STEP 1:Round each factor to estimate the product. STEP 2: Multiply your rounded factors to estimate the product. STEP 3: Rename the decimal using hundredths. STEP 4:Multiply. 7.38 becomes 7 and 41 becomes 40 7 x 40 = 280 7.38 becomes 738 hundredths Will the actual product be greater than or less than our estimate? How do you know? Why are we using hundredths instead of tenths?
7
Concept Development: Problem #1 STEP 5:Find the partial products and the final product. STEP 6:Convert your final product to standard form. 30,258 hundredths becomes 302.58 ones or just 302.58 Write hundredths to remind yourself of the unit you are using. 7.38 x 41

STEP 5:Find the partial products and the final product. STEP 6:Convert your final product to standard form. When you rename 7.38 as 738 hundredths, you've really just multiplied 7.38 by 100! When you convert 30,258 hundredths to standard form, you've really just divided 30,258 by 100! Concept Development: Problem #1 7.38 x 41

STEP 1:Round each factor to estimate the product. STEP 2: Multiply your rounded factors to estimate the product. STEP 3: Rename the decimal using tenths (multiply by 10). STEP 4:Multiply. STEP 5:Find the partial products and the final product. STEP 6:Convert your final product to standard form (divide by 10). Concept Development: Problem #2 8.26 x 128
