MPDS Next Round Applications open 8 April and close 22 May 2009 Copy of all applications from your region downloaded on CD to each DHB by end of May 2009 Joint assessment in early June 2009 MoH and DHB Meet with providers, DHBs and MAPOs (where relevant) during July 2009 and begin contract discussion

Change to eligibility criteria to include PHOs and recognise Maori health providers in a PHO An existing Maori health provider that has contracts with the Ministry of Health and/ or District Health Board and/ or a Primary Health Organisation An existing Maori health provider that is in the process of negotiating a contract with the DHB and/ or the Ministry of Health and/ or a Primary Health Organisation The Ministry of Health have defined a Maori health provider as a provider that is owned and governed by Maori and is providing health and disability services primarily but not exclusively to Maori.

Old Eligibility Criteria An existing Maori health provider or Maori organisation which has contracts with the Ministry of Health and/or District Health Boards An existing Maori health provider or Maori organisation that is in process of negotiating a contract with the Ministry of Health and or District Health Board Be part of a joint venture with a Maori health provider Ministry of Health’s Definition of a Maori health provider is: Providers that are contracted to deliver health and disability services that target Maori clients or communities, are led by a Maori governance and Management structure and express Maori kaupapa and consider the Wider issues of Maori development and how it might apply to their own organisation.

Getting Reporting of MPDS Spend back into an yearly cycle 06/07 MPDS reporting (900k was outstanding) Working on 07/08 reporting ( 50% reporting rate) Streamlining system for 09/10: Faster decision making to finalise negotiations earlier MoH will not contract with providers in Breach of MPDS reporting requirements All under spends returned to MoH. We will work with providers to spend or release fund to other projects

Evaluation of MPDS Evaluation Report not yet finalised Cabinet paper and recommendations for MPDS future almost completed (will report at a future TTW meeting once completed). Administration of MPDS: Opinion of DHB Maori GMs unclear in Draft Evaluation Report?
