5. Rising Action 1. The conflict develops 2. This is the bulk of the story (the longest part) 3. The story becomes more exciting Example: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone: 1. School continues and the trio think Snape is up to something. 2. They find out about the Sorcerer’s Stone. 3. They think Snape is after the stone.

6. Climax 1. Turning point of the story 2. A decision or choice is usually made 3. Can be the big moment of the story Example: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone 1. They decide to go through the trapdoor 2. They face the obstacles 3. Harry walks into the last room to fight Quirrell and he finds the Sorcerer’s Stone

7. Falling Action 1. The conflict is resolved (ended) 2. Loose ends are tied up 3. All events here lead to the Resolution Example: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone 1. Harry is rescued from the dungeon 2. Dumbledore explains what happened after Harry passed out 3. Harry goes to the feast 4. Gryffindor wins the house cup 5. The students get ready to go home

19. Man vs Self An internal conflict Person has to make a choice or decision Examples: You see someone cheat on a test and you have to decide what to tell the teacher You have to decide what outfit to wear in the morning

20. Man vs Nature Person against natural elements Can be a storm or an animal Example: You have to make your way home in a hurricane. You are in the woods and have to escape a bear.
