Language Practice 5 sp Information for 2017-2018

What are the requirements? At least 8 weeks in an English-speaking country (can be 2 x 4 weeks). Integrate with local life, both socially and linguistically. So: NOT language courses or tourism. A written (5-6 page) report in English. Past reports are available in folders in the computer bay.

Working in an English-speaking context

As an au pair, etc. In a hotel, etc. Voluntary work of all kinds – e.g. charity shops in the UK, as teaching assistant, etc. Camp Counselors USA (with children 7-16): 9-11 weeks; free food and accommodation + pocket money Requires good health insurance http://www.ccusa.com/ Work & Travel (Australia) Etc., etc. Look in the folders of language practice reports in the computer bay … Make use of any personal contacts you have …

ISEP requirements: For the application (handed in to the International Office): List of chosen universities Detailed study plan for each university, approved by English department Completed ISEP application form (printable from International Office web pages) STURE transcript in English A personal statement of purpose (max. 500 words) Completed ISEP academic reference form plus attached letter of recommendation from a member of the English department Language proficiency report ISEP grant: 1 600 € / term

Study (3): UK Contact person: Harriet Klåvus ERASMUS+ exchange agreements with four British universities: University of Wales, Bangor – 1 place / 9 months (ELit) University of Glasgow – 3 places / 9 months (ELang) University of York – 3 places / 5 months (ELit) Nottingham Trent University – 2 places / 5 months (ELit) The deadline for applications is February 2017 for the following academic year. You may be able to take courses in other departments; but your study plan must be accepted by us first.

ERASMUS requirements: Minimum of 12 weeks’ (= 3 months) and maximum of 9 months’ study For the application (handed in to the International Office): Study plan approved by English department Erasmus+ learning agreement STURE transcript in English Erasmus grant: 350€ / month

Applying for a Donner grant (2) The department tries hard to distribute Donner grants fairly. Donner grants can cover: Travel expenses Living expenses (including rent at your place of work / study – but NOT in Finland during your absence) Travel insurance Placement fees (e.g. for Allianssi) Tuition - but NOT for language courses, and NOT necessarily full university fees Donner grants cannot cover: Clothes, books, food, recreational activities, international student card Grants from other sources (e.g. Erasmus, ISEP, Svenska studiefonden) must be calculated into (i.e. deducted from) the sum you apply for NB: Keep all receipts: needed for report to Stiftelsen when you return.
