1 Elements of the ASF Preparedness in Romania Ministerial meeting to discuss scientific cooperation on ASF 26 February 2016, Tallinn, Estonia

2 General information Currently Romania is African swine fever (ASF) free Preparedness for cope with ASF began since 2011 Currently, Romania is found at the higher level of risk, due to notification of two outbreaks of ASF in Odessa region, on 28-th October 2015.

3 Preparedness Risk Assessment *last one in February 2016 Contingency plan and operational manuals for domestic pigs and wild boars Surveillance (programme co financed by the EU Commission) Simulation exercises (in domestic pigs – 2013, in wild boars- 2014) Awareness and information campaigns, training courses, task notes Legislation (reinforcing/updating the national legislation) Meetings of National Group of Experts on ASF Meeting with the representatives of the NAFS Moldova to discus a common approach of the disease Establishing collaborations with the other national authorities involved in the management of the disease and with stakeholders

4 CVET Expert Mission to Romania on African Swine Fever 18-22 January 2016 NSVFSA requested an evaluation by a CVET team from the EU, both for Romania and Republic of Moldova, in order to evaluate the provide assistance to the scientific, technical, managerial and practical on-the-spot assistance on the development and refinement of the most suitable prevention and control measures for African Swine Fever (ASF) under local conditions; the report is waited for the Mission in Romania: The CVET Mission in Moldova take place on 22-26-th February 2016.

5 Activating the NDCC On 23-th December 2015, it was hold the first meeting of the National Committee for Special Emergency Situations (NCSES) where NSVFSA presented data on disease progression in the Community and in neighbouring countries, and proposed the activation of the National Centre for Disease Control, and adoption of measures to prepare the administration of Romania responsible for prompt response in disease control, in case of introduction of the virus in the territory. On this occasion, it was proposed to a NCSES a draft decision with preventive measures in this regard.
