2 PHW Observatory 2011 Report The national health inequality gap has widened (2001-2009). The gap in healthy life expectancy between the most & least deprived areas is very wide in 2009 for males at 18.9 years. In England the gap in males in 2010 was 15 years.

3 Health of Children &Young People, The Observatory 2013 1 in 5 children live in poverty. only 50% of newborn babies are breastfed Almost 3 in 10 children aged 4-5 are classified as overweight or obese. 26% of those aged 16-24 reported smoking. 46% of those aged 16-24 drink above the recommended guidelines. Teenage conception rates in Wales are higher in <18 compared with England.

"The pace of reform has been high & lacks a long-term vision, an adequate school improvement infrastructure & a clear implementation strategy all stakeholders share”.

11 It criticised standards of teachers in Wales & “Lack of options for career progression & professional development for teachers & head teachers”. “Schools in Wales found it difficult to recruit high-calibre teachers, which may be a result of the standard of applicants on teacher training courses”. “Stability & a "long-term path" was required”.
